Project Runway vs. Project Catwalk

Project Catwalk Styles

It was recently brought to my attention that there is a British knockoff of my beloved Project Runway, theirs goes by the fresh name of Project Catwalk. Just like our show, the UK version gives twelve talented and hungry fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime - a chance to have their collection shown at London Fashion Week. The winner also gets a small pile of money and a mentorship with the Top Shop design team (which is way better than blah Banana Republic). Last year’s Project Runway winner, Jay, didn’t even accept the Banana Republic internship.

Project Catwalk Cast of Designers

The UK’s show is hosted by Elizabeth Hurley, I wonder what her ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ catch phrase is…Apparently she beat out Elle McPherson for the job. Supposedly Elizabeth wanted the job soooo badly that she had been bombarding the producers with phone calls to sell herself. Reality Blurred says Hurley “sent an unbelievably professional video presentation of her work, and has boasted that she can use her celebrity fashion contacts like Donatella Versace to add flavour to the show.” She probably just wanted the chance to publicize her crappy swimwear line, Elizabeth Hurley Beach.

i heard about the show and read a few blogs about it…..a little interested in seeing it hit our shores….since PR is awesome.

Ive watched a couple of episodes of project catwalk over here in england, and to be honest, it’s not bad. However, i dont have project runway to compare it to and liz hurley just gets on my nerves. She sounds like shes putting that stupid accent on!

  3. Hiromi Says:

I’ve actually watched both, and I prefer Project Runway. The designers on PR are so… MEMORABLE compared to the ones on Project Catwalk. Oh, and the host of Project Catwalk doesn’t have a catchphrase at all. Oh well…

  4. Leo Says:

Hiromi, just to clarify, Liz Hurley does have a catch phrase, it’s “Fashion has no mercy” however she’s not as pleasant nor pregnant as Heidi.

I’ve downloaded all the episodes of Project Runway and Project Catwalk, they’re BOTH guilty pleasures. If i had to pick a fav, it’d be Project Runway, ONLY because i think it highlights the fashion more. Project Catwalk goes too quick and never focuses on one thing enough. Too bad Gemma’s out of Project Catwalk, she was by far the cutest… and that accent!! Bye bye Gemmie! You’ll be missed!

after seeing both programes i have to say project catwalk is better the designs are way better but then again british fasion has always been better than merican and they get a mentorship with topshop!!!!! wow like kate moss and loads of british celebs shop there it may not be designer but topshop is the cream of the crop over in britan!

  7. alan Says:

To ian: where and how do you download project catwalk from? desparate to get my hands on the entire series, great tv

  8. Faith Says:

I prefer Project Runway as well. Like Ian said it focuses more on the fashion — you can really watch and see how the designs come along. I also prefer Tim Gunn to Ben de Lisi. Tim is an overall better mentor. Ben comes across as cold and too insensitive. I also agree that on Catwalk goes to quick. I was wondering why I didn’t enjoy it as much. After Catwalk I always seemed to have a slight headache.

As soon as Project Catwalk was advertised I let a sigh of dissapointment. I don’t think it would be as great of a show as Project Runway. (I’m currently watching the Catwalk now and haven’t really had any interest). Heidi Klum and her possy Rule!!!! I guess I love the feel of it more. Maybe us Canadians will be next eh? Hosted by Linda Evangelista perhaps?

  10. David Wells Says:

Would like to enter the project catwalk, as I think I have what it takes x x x would be a laugh.

  11. chris Says:

yeah I have watched both also and I think that Project Runway is better. Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum are irreplacable. It just isn’t the same without them. That would be SO awesome if they had Project Runway in Canada!!

  12. chris Says:

WAIT!!!! i forgot to say how mad I was that Gemma was eliminated. Matthew was already in the bottom two before, and didn’t help Leslie that much the week before. I think that he will be the Wendy/Santino of Project Catwalk. just a thought…

  13. Amy Says:

Project catwalk was sooo much better, the designers weren’t as good i agree but the models were so much better—mainly because the second one from the right in the picture above is my big sister!

  14. dani Says:

  15. xLau Says:

OMG!! I love project catwalk! If i was old enough - i would enter! i definately have what it takes! i make most of my own clothes!!! I want to be a fashion designer when i am older!! Bye-bye project runway!! step aside for Project Catwalk!!

and the contestants are SOOOO MEMORABLE!!

Project Catwalk blows Project Runway out of the fashion waters. The designers are far more professional, and the focus is on fashion design and construction, not petty squabbles.
