Chain Reaction…

1.18 LV1.jpgI bought a plastic chain link necklace at Urban Outfitters last week, and the ladies at style.com must have seen me wearing it because they did a fabulous homage to my look. Check out these chain necklaces by Missoni,Marc Jacobs, and Louis Vuitton. Please note that it is key to pair necklaces like these with a simple menswear top, i.e. a simple turtleneck or an oversized v-neck sweater (H+M has very cute grey v-necks for 30 USD’s). If wearing monster chains around your neck is not for you, you may want to sport your chains as bag detailing instead, see our earlier post.

Splatter story…

1.15 libertine.jpg

Hmmm…splatter paint? Libertine and Anne D are looking a bit Nitsch. Are they trying to re-enact the story of creation? Are they violently expressing themselves on blank canvasses to step away from imagery? Is this a bridge for Libertine to step away from their stale clip-art spot prints, or is it just a trite art-school attempt at being avante?

Project Catwalk Review / “Fashion has no mercy” -Liz Hurley

1.15PCHurleysTits After Amy had her world turned up-side down by the realization that there are two fashion reality TV shows going on at once, I decided that I would try to see if I could download this knockoff for us to take a gander at. For those of you familiar with BitTorrent, it can be had here. It’s pretty well seeded so by the time Sunday morn’ came around we perched ourselves infront of the computer and took a look at the Skyone production. The first thing we (I) noticed was Liz Hurley’s tits, they’re out in the open in almost every shot she’s in. Casting wise, the Brits’ took a less controversial approach, that is to say that there aren’t any particular cast members that scream ‘douchebag’ (ahem, Santino, ahem). On average they’re much more lovable than the US cast.

Scarlett at the Golden Globes…

1.17 scarlett.jpg
Well, I guess I was wrong about my Scarlett Johansson prediction for the Golden Globes. I think that the Yohji Yamamoto dress (shown on the left) would have been a more interesting choice than her whore-ass Valentino dress, but I guess if she wore Yohji’s dress she wouldn’t have gotten her tits grabbed.

Golden Globe cuties…

1.17nportman.jpg1.17kknightley.jpg
Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley are my picks for the best dressed girls of the evening at the Golden Globes. Strapless was definitely the way to go. Natalie looks awesome in her vintage Chanel Haute Couture and her simple makeup/hair look was relieving compared to all the overdone ladies at the Globes. Keira also looked pretty good, the sutach embroidery on her Valentino gown actually looks stunning, but maybe I’m just saying that because Missoni has been making sutach look like the next big embellishment trend…

Golden Globes: Best dressed mama

I loved it on Balenciaga’s runway and I love it on preggers Gwyneth Paltrow. I wonder if B will make me my maternity clothes…

London soles…

Monday, January 16th, 2006

ballet shoes.jpgSo every cute girl I saw in London was wearing ballet flats with their incredibly skinny jeans. Slippers go against my resolution to wear more heels, but I’m still thinking about them. I’ll wear them with a big white dress shirt (inspired by Amy’s post earlier) cinched with a gigantic corset belt and some Capri leggings. I’m set. Check these out from London Soles.

Shirt appeal…

With t-shirts getting increasingly longer, woven shirtdresses are the next sensible fashion staple. British Vogue did a great capsule on Margaret Howell’s dress shirts. She really has a way of sexing up a menswear look, Margaret says “Nothing looks more stylish than a man’s shirt and jeans…back in the eighties it felt subversive, but now it has become a classic combination”. Check out these styles by Chloe, Stella, and Ralph. Belted or unbelted this refreshing dress shape looks smart. As shown above these styles look great with a set of mile long legs, so instead let’s try pairing these dresses with long skinny shorts or tight ass jeans (with slutty heels of course!)

Bling ring…

1.14BLINGBLINKring_web_copy2.jpgThis bling sterling silver ring is by Alissia Melka-Teichroew. I love the irony of this playful piece. If the silver ring is too $$$ for you, she also runs them in acrylic for a mere $10. These works are available from greener grass design.

Project Runway vs. Project Catwalk

Project Catwalk Styles

It was recently brought to my attention that there is a British knockoff of my beloved Project Runway, theirs goes by the fresh name of Project Catwalk. Just like our show, the UK version gives twelve talented and hungry fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime - a chance to have their collection shown at London Fashion Week. The winner also gets a small pile of money and a mentorship with the Top Shop design team (which is way better than blah Banana Republic). Last year’s Project Runway winner, Jay, didn’t even accept the Banana Republic internship.

Natural Necklaces…

1.12 rope necklace1.jpg1.12 random necklaces1.jpg

Longer necklaces have been showing up in recent editorials (as in this spread from Anthem). Natural rope, random twine, or (gasp!) hemp are great vehicles for your favorite pendant or charm, rather than stringing such pieces on silver or gold chains. I haven’t seen any designers carrying them, it seems as though this is going to be more of a DIY project. Consider it a good luck talisman for the new year. Let me know if you come across any similar options in stores!

Fierce Nails…

1.12 crazy nails.jpg

Check out these fierce nails. Fashion is getting sluttier by the second with all the towering heels; we’ve got to have the nails to match. I’ve played around with having the salon glue crystals to various parts of my nails and I’ve been holding on to this tear from NYLON for a while, so it’s finally time for me to take the plunge and get it done. I’ll let you know how it works out!

Nicole Richie is hydrated…

Here are some drinks that Nicole Richie supposidly drank. Pictured here is a range of water, sprite, lemonade, iced tea, coke, vitamin water, milk, and coffee. It’s good to know that Nicole keeps herself hydrated.

Everyone must check out the Nicole Richie site (not acutally affiliated with her), they have countless soundbites of her saying things like: ‘Are you a lesbian?’ and ‘You have very big nips’.

Cowboy blues…

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

1.11jessica ugly.jpgI’m sorry but one of the main things I’m waiting for in fashion is to be able to wear my cowboy boots again. Hopefully in the divorce settlement nick will ban Jessica Simpson from wearing hers any more and slowly the too-late trendy minions will leave all their steve madden cowboy boots at the back of their closets with their gaucho pants and sparkly Chinatown slippers and those tiered skirts. Then and only then will I be able to wear the cowboy boots I’ve loved and lost since the 90’s without worrying someone will mistake me for a complete asshole. I tried my favorite pair on last week, but, alas, it is still too soon.
