Hello everyone! Sorry to disappear for a few days, Leo and I just got engaged on Saturday!!! Leo and my friend Sarah Dunbar Rhodes (my schoolmate at RISD) who also happens to be my favorite jewelry designer of all time, designed the ring together.

I love this super cute illustration by Speto. I’m a big fan for anything made out of cut paper, and this is an especially good specimen.

Black and white t-shirts are the new cool kid on the block. Helle Mardahl makes amazing black and white graphic creations. Check out her site to see her illustrations and garments. The bag is courtesy of style.com, apparently it’s Copenhagen’s ‘it’ bag.

Soda Fine is up and running in it’s new location (119 Grand Street, Brooklyn NY). I especially recommend checking out the recent pieces by American Myth, the cuts are futuristic, intentional, and bold. XOXO!

Here are some good-bye to Brooklyn graffiti highlights. I’ve moved back to Philly full time to pursue freelance jobs, a flexible schedule, and the start of something amazing and wonderful. This week’s posts are mostly going to be Brooklyn/NY-centric.

Favorite Designer: Mayle

I was cleaning up my apartment today and came across a lookbook from Mayle. She is one of my favorite designers of all time (right up there with Isabelle Marant), and is unfortunately under represented on the web. I love how she merchandizes casual pieces to look dressy, and vise versa. If you are in the New York area check out her Nolita shop (242 Elizabeth Street).

Project Runway Streetstyle: Alison Kelly

I spotted ex-project runway cutie Alison Kelly hanging out around Williamsburg over the weekend. I’ve been giggling that on every show she has worn some variation of her crochet top (she wears it in white, black and every variation imaginable). Guess what she was wearing when I saw her on the street? Nothing less than one of her many crochet tops! Shown above is another take on her crochet top, courtesy of Alison’s myspace page.

Another amazing book I found is by Erica Wilson titled ‘Needleplay’. This book is full of fun ideas which are all highlights from her television series “Erica”. There are still some VHS tapes of this show available on Ebay.

I love the interior cover of Free-Form Bargello. This book is full of extremely weird and badly formed drawings, all of which I love. Check out the below images of free-form approaches to Bargello embroidery.

This weekend I dedicated my flea market shopping to finding 70’s needle art books. This is one of my finds titled ‘Do it Yourself Needlepoint Design Workbook, vol 2′. This amazing workbook is full of strong handed quirky drawings. Shown above are some of my favorite designs.

Trend Right: James Coviello

7.12_james_brocade.jpg12.7_james_plaid.jpg
I was browsing James Coviello’s website and realized how delightfully on point he was with his Fall 06 collection. At the Directions print show the other week two key trends were present at almost every booth: #1=brocade wallpaper-esque prints and #2=plaid. No-Print-Prints and No-Skin-Skins were also common requests by the design populi at the Fall Directions show.

Accessory Report:Headbands are the new legging

headband1.jpg

Headbands are the new legging. Everyone in NY, whether they are fashionable or not are sporting these bands around the tops of their heads. I cannot embrace this trend. The look is soooo 2nd grade, and anyways headbands always press on the sides of my head and end up inducing a painful headache. I know beauty hurts, but headbands are not worth the pain.
