Check out the latest works from
Katy Horan. Above are some details of her most recent works which are a native american/folkloric approach to her unique characters performing homespun traditions such as knitting/quilting/sewing and such. Also be sure to check out her
blog, which is full of her super cute artwork and fun projects and shows she is working on.

Leo’s birthday was last Friday, and I surprised him with a portrait of us by one of our favorite local painters,
Jessica Doyle. Above is a detail from the painting. To see some
pictures from her show at

I love this new
creation by my friends over at Anthropologie, it’s the first printed ipod dock in the whole wide world. This isongbook is the perfect holiday gift for the girl who needs pattern in every part of her life.

I love these collages by Birdie Lusch. They are fashioned out of old postage stamps, magazine clippings, and interjections of her line work. Birdie was a self taught artist who spent her life laboring in a ball bearing factory, and made these imaginative collages in her free time. To see more of her work check out
KS Art’s website.

Here is another image from
By Hand, my new favorite book. This piece is by Robyn Love. Her work is homespun and haunting at the same time. This particular piece is a gravestone cozy which she hand knit and embroidered. This piece was created in ‘97, but it’s so fashion right at the moment. It’s perfectly compatible with Dolce and Gabana’s fall 06
collection (shown on right). Check out Robyn’s
site for more of her knit pieces.

I’ve just started to pour through my copy of
By Hand, and I love the images of Kirsten Hassenfeld’s work. Her sculptures are beautiful renditions of symbols and shapes that normally represent wealth but are instead made into fantastical forms.

The other day a friend and I were talking, and we couldn’t figure out what had become of the art school style icon, Hope Atherton. But, leave it to style.com to track anyone/everyone down; all it took was one swift google to find her in 2006. Here she is at Calvin Klein’s spring 07 show.

Tsumori Chisato is almost impossible to track down on the web, but I’ve managed to find some shots of her spring 07 collection. I love her shoe silhouettes, and her amazing use of patterning. The day of the dead theme she pursued for this collection actually works, and I’m craving the last image on the bottom right, a skull lace dress.

Since the trees are starting to change color, I’ve been paying much more attention to foliage over these last couple of days. I love these sweet soft images from
Mocchi Mocchi. These images are from a 2006 calendar, and unfortunately they are sold out. But it wouldn’t really matter, as it’s almost 2007! I can’t wait to see what they make for this coming year.

In this hectic age of superhighways, intercontinental jets, and trips to the moon, there is something incongruous about a needle worker spending endless hours on a single project (unless it is of heirloom quality).

I love these leather hand knit bags by my dear friend Lana Williams. For those of you in Greece, you can find her bags at Paramour in Kifissia, or Avant Garde in Kolonaki. I’m personally craving the grey bag on the left. Check out her
website for other inspiring hand knit creations and to custom order her works.
