In conjunction with the 215 Festival, my dear friend/curator Damian Weinkrantz has assembled a collection of artists whose work embodies a sense of narrative. It’s an all-star line up: Jim Houser, Mat Brinkman (of Fort Thunder), Martha Rich, Keith Shore (shown above), Keith Greiman, and Andrew Jeffery Wright are all showing works. The opening is on October 6th from 6-9 pm at Big Jar Books (55 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia).

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for anything Inuit inspired. The work of Rachell Sumpter is so adorable. Her style is so consistent from piece to piece; it makes her work feel as though it is torn from a picture book. Her work is also available at the Cinders Gallery.

I love Allyson Mellburg’s gruesome work. I love the sweetness of her characters expressions and the softness of her lines. Check out her flickr set for more images. These pieces are also for sale at Cinders Gallery, my favorite gallery in Brooklyn. Check them out on-line, or if you are in NY you must stop in.

Gucci…

I never thought I would find myself saying this…but I actually like the spring 07 Gucci collection. The bold folkloric embroideries are dare I say, cute? And I love the bedazzled 60′s shift dresses, the geometric nature of the beading makes it young and fun.
