New York Look…

I’m obsessed with New York Magazine’s fashion spin-off, New York Look. More like a primary source rather than your typical fashion mag, New York Look breaks down all of the best collections of the S/S ‘08 season. Not only are you given access to color, silhouette, and beauty trends, but you also get to see all the juicy, not-so-publicized details of fashion week, including runway backdrops, front row attendees, and designer inspirations. My favorite spread, titled “From Every Angle,” gave a photographic montage of all the front row and backstage action.

I’m so excited about Marimekko’s collaboration with H&M, which is due to launch this April. The collection of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel will feature the firm’s signature prints from the 50s through the 70s. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of the tunic dresses!

The J.Crew Mini…

It’s finally beginning to feel like winter, and I have yet to stock up on cute cold weather pieces. Since it’s difficult for me to find pants to fit my short stature, I often opt for the next best thing. This season, J.Crew has provided adorable pant alternatives with these wool minis. I love their use of traditional plaids in an array of classic colors. I think these tartan plaid and houndstooth styles are adorable.

Louise Loves…Obesity and Speed

I have always liked the dark and cryptic graphics of Obesity and Speed tees, but was pleasantly surprised to see their take on bags and dresses. I love their braided strap dress, which comes in both black and white versions. My favorite piece, though, was this humongous graphic hobo. If I wasn’t a broke college student, it would be mine..all mine.

While browsing the latest S/S 08 collections, I noticed this adorable geometric jewelry trend. I love how Missoni’s collaged interpretation fuses wooden elements with tons of bling. Marni’s clean, color-blocked version is definitely my favorite, though, because I think it’s much more wearable.

Hand Drawn Typography

I just bought this amazing typography book called Hand Job. The book features tons of hand drawn lettering by a number of well known artists. It’s an endless source of inspiration and I’m totally obsessed.

Debate… The Return of Platforms

Nooo! I was truly convinced that this trend was dead for good, but for the past year now, the super-high stacked platform has begun to resurface. Here are two of the latest platform designs from Yves Saint Laurent and Allesandro Dell’Aqua. I think these brick heels should remain as seventies relics, never to be taken out of their museum glass cases. What do you guys think?

Louise Loves…Keith Haring Prints

Keith Haring is one of my favorite artists, so you can imagine how excited I was to see his influence in Alexander McQueen’s latest McQ collection. My favorite piece is this Men’s t-shirt. Unfortunately, the print wasn’t used in any women’s garments, but I still love it none the less.

I love the work of sign artist Jeff Canham. The above untitled work is my favorite because it reminds me of the summer.

Busy,busy,busy…

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

So I haven’t been posting much lately, and it’s because Leo and I have been insanely busy. Over the last couple weeks, we’ve adopted a darling geriatric dachshund- chihuahua, bought a house, and both of our cars were totaled by a drunk driver. So, basically things have been crazy in both in good and bad ways. So, we are going to have a guest blogger here at Seamsters, Louise. I am going to be focusing my energies on working on my home renovations and will be posting the process and progress at amyandleo.com. I’ll also post some highlights here at Seamsters.
