Relaxing over break…

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday.  I’ve been relaxing and catching up on everyone’s blogs, and there are two that I came across that I am loving (I read their sites start to finish!).

Once Wed,http://www.oncewed.com an amazing wedding themed blog for quirky girls.  And, Mood Board, which covers fashion and home style with a great modern eye.

This year my mom and I got into baking cookies for Christmas.  Here are a few books I’d love to have to expand the types I try next year.  Above is: The Williams-Sonoma Collection: Cookies.

Do the dishes…

I love Showpony’s etsy shop.  I’m a tea towel lover, and this one is so cute.  I love that the letters are made up of stacks of dirty dishes.

Jamie Oliver…

I love the images Joy posted of Pearlfisher’s package designs for Jamie Oliver.  I’m a huge foodie, so I love anything food related.  These have such a nice feeling of old-timey charm mixed with modern minimalism.

Instead of joining the gym, I’d rather just eat less…

I’ve never been into working out.  With the recession and all, I’ve convinced myself that it is monetarily irresponsible to join the gym.  So, I’ve taken to doing a frantic jog around my block in the morning, and eating soup at lunch (to offset all the holiday cookies of course!).  So, then I started to think if I purchased a scale, that then I would be further encouraged to live a more healthful lifestyle.  But, all this penny pinching I suppose is thrown out the window when you find something like this…the Seca Aurea 795.  It’s really pretty, and it helps that it is 24 carat gold-platted through the body, and the tread area is real leather.  I found it ‘on sale’ at Amazon for $970 which equals 16 months of gym membership…

This Tanita HA-502 is really cute too, I love how utilitarian it looks, and for $44 it’s a pretty good deal.

Feast…

It’s a tradition in my family to give the gift of books for Christmas.  I’ve been a bit slow on posting my book requests, but I’ll be posting a few of my most wanted.  I’ve been really wanting to get Lena’s Feast.

I’m loving this MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Softy – Large’ Satchel.  The lining is also super cute with a dots and stars print, which keeps it from being too grown-up.

Been away for a bit…

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Hi All, sorry for being absent for the last week.  The holidays are always crazy…and on top of it I decided to bit the bullet and get Lasik.  So glad I did, waking up with 20/20 vision is just amazing.  I’ll be posting more over the next couple days with some last minute gift ideas.  XOXO

Loving Tillandsias…

I’m loving this variety of Tillandsia over at DWR.  I’d love to see some good pictures of how others have arranged their own Tillandsias.  I found this great picture, shown below, with some lovely glass jars.  This could be a great Christmas present for friends that lack a green thumb.  These plants are known to be really low maintenance and require barely any watering, but still look as chic as an orchid.

On the hunt for moisturizer…

darphin_1.jpg
So, I spent the weekend trolling around my favorite beauty spots.  I first started at Blue Mercury (the best beauty store ever!).  They recommended that I go with the Darphin products to winterproof my dry skin.  This Darphin Hydraskin Light is for the day, and then would be followed by the nighttime Hydraskin Night Cream.

Then, I headed over to Sephora.  I was a little overwhelmed with all of the options, but I had done some research online about Philosophy’s products, so I tried out a few of their moisturizers.

This Hope in a Jar seemed like the best fit for me, but I can’t help but feel like their products are a bit of a fad.  I gave up on the search, and headed off to get a facial.  I tried out Affordable Skin Care Salon (537 East Girard Ave) in Philadelphia.  Mary the owner performs the facials, I got the Ayurvedic Facial.  Their prices are really affordable from $27-$58.  I’m still on the hunt for the perfect moisturizer, but at least my skin is feeling good for now.
