Birthday Wish List…

pots_rachel_ray.jpg
I love to cook, but I’ve never invested in a set of pots.  Picking a set of pots is a very difficult task, there are so many options at so many different price ranges, with such varying reviews.  I love the way stainless steel looks, but everyone in reviews seems to be dissatisfied with their ability to be cleaned easily.  So, I switched to looking at easier clean options, like the Rachel Ray ones above.  These are all on the small side for me, so I think I’d like to complete the set with the below 5-quart pan.

The other plus about this set is that is seems to be fairly lightweight.  I love my Le Crueset dutch oven more than any other kitchen item, but it’s so heavy it’s not great for me when I’m boiling or braising, since it’s heavy for me when draining liquids out of the pan.
knives1.jpg
I’m also loving this block of knives.  We have a mishmash of random knives we’ve picked up over the years, but since I cook so much, it would be so much more handy to grab these counter top ones, rather than digging for knives in drawers (ouch!).

Loving Christmas at Terrain…

terrain_wreath_1.jpg
I am officially a Christmas junkie.  Leo and I headed outside of the city over the weekend to see what was going on at Terrain at Styer’s, aka my favorite store in the world.  I love all of the beautiful, artistic approaches to Christmas.  Here are some wreaths that I’m loving.  And, if you hurry you can order ones from the set designs and they will hand craft them just for you! Below are some other lovely options they offer.

Tons of cute, at Petulia’s Folly…

5_year_diary.jpg
I ventured into center city this weekend to visit a friend over at Petulia’s Folly.  It’s one of the best places in Philly to shop for cute home goods, gift ideas, and amazing clothing.  I love the packaging of this 5 year diary.  If you don’t get a chance to check out the store, you can also pick up this diary here instead.
paperweight.jpg
Normally I’m not a John Derian fan, but this heart paperweight is especially cute, also available at Petullia’s Folly.
kobo_candle.jpg
I picked up one of these amazing smelling Kobo soy candles.  The Fresh Currant scent is my personal favorite.  Also available here.

When in San Francisco, I always stay in Hayes Valley.  It has tons of cute shops and small places to get great food.  For some reason I never noticed Rose and Radish before, they have amazing home goods, kids toys, and an amazing flower/plant service.

I picked up a cute pair of these Jeffrey Cambell ‘Office’ shoes at Vagabond yesterday.  Mine are black, but they don’t seem to be on the web yet, so you’ll just have to use your imagination (or go to Vagabond).

Just have to have it…Paris style

urban_boots.jpg
Being in Paris always makes me want a whole new wardrobe..but given the exchange rate it’s safer for my bank statment if I wait until I get home.  So, here are a few essentials that are similar to my Paris cravings.  Above are a pair of Fornarina boots from Urban Outfitters.

Cute preppy shoes for the weekend…

board_short.jpg

Cute board shorts are always great too. It’s the kind of thing that a guy would never get for themselves, but chances are they are in dire need of a non-ugly pair. A nice print or stripe can make your summer beach and poolside adventures much more pleasurable. And, you can find a board short that’s friendly to any budget (and if you typically don’t shop for your guy, the sizing is pretty easy to figure out as they often run in letter sizes). The above are from Barney’s Co-Op, but you can even get super cute ones at Target. On the same note, a nice pair of flip-flops or sandals can also be a great gift.

Belts, black or brown…

man_purse.jpg

A murse (man purse), shown above by John Varvatos. I suggest this bag for very committed relationships only (given the price tag). Diesel also makes nice man bags, and if you have time to scour ebay or fleamarkets old leather mail bags are great too.

jcrew_man_bag.jpg

Here’s another man bag from JCREW, that I couldn’t help but add to the list. It’s a bit more rugged looking, if your man is more on the casual side.

And finally, if you’ve only got $20 bucks to spend, look on Zagats for the most over the top bar in town (rooftop garden preferred) and get yourself and your man a ridiculous cocktail. If you’re in Philly, try Apothecary Lounge.

For the boys…cutoffs

cutoffs.jpg
I loved the NY Times article regarding men’s cutoffs.  We just made Leo a pair last weekend by shortening a old pair of Built by Wendy Jeans.  The Times suggests:”Cut just the seams and lightly score the fabric with the blade, first in front, then in back; carefully, firmly, tear along these lines. The resulting frayed edge should…come out perfectly after a wash. But be warned: without subtle stitching above the fray, the shorts will unravel with each wash”.  I’ll have to try that next time…

Fall footwear…

I am fully aware that it’s still summer, but I’m already bored with flipflops and sandals (and all the maintenance of pedicures). I’m looking forward to some fall footwear.  I love the cracked finish of these Marc by Marc Jacobs boots.

the No Kids…

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I went out the other night to Johnny Brenda’s and ended up seeing the No Kids, totally my new favorite band. They are kind of an artschool hipster version of R Kelly from Vancouver, British Columbia. Check them out here, http://www.myspace.com/nokidsband.

So, I’ve been on the hunt for Paul Smith-ish wallpaper for my entrance hall. As it seems as though there isn’t much in the vein available in the wallpaper world. I asked Grace over at D*’s, and she mentioned Flavor Paper’s Ribbon Candy Stripe. I also love their Ziggy Diamond shown below.
