Project Catwalk Week 2 Review

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

As many of you know the second episode of Project Catwalk aired about a week and a half ago on Skyone. It took quite a while for it to show up on the torrent sites but it finally appeared earlier this week.

FrostFrench Project Catwalk Week 2

This episode the designers were given a lesson in fashion by the Sadie Frost and Jemima French of the FrostFrench designer duo. Sadie and Jemima wasted no time getting into the thick of it with the contestants challenging them to describe themselves in a ‘word’. Everyone was able to respond pretty quickly except for Zoe who decided to have some sort of fit about being put on the spot, a sure foreshadowing of troubles to come.

Punk Rock – Sorry Gemma…

I must express my apologies to Gemma Ward, I am way too excited about the women’s fall fashion shows which are quickly approaching (Feb.3rd!). I’ve taken this opportunity to use you as the vessel (via cutting and pasting) for us to look at men’s Fall 2006 fashion week in Milan. I hope you understand…

One of the key themes for the men’s shows so far has been punk. There is a smattering of slim looks with lots of red/black/grey accents. I am obsessed with the dandy-punk look shown in the upper left is from Prada’s collection. The oversized sweater paired with pants that are the slightest bit too short finished by tabbed ankles looks very fresh. I’m into this length because it’s a departure from the capri, and it’s not the super long and scrunched skinny pant. This pant sits on a new horizon for our bottom halves.

The second look, upper right, is from Alexander McQueen’s collection. This collection walks us through a circle of life narrative…from health, to punk vampire, to crazed memoir of a geisha zombie. My fave is the healthy part, but I had to post this whack ensemble. It’s a definite indicator to some heavy China thoughts I’m going to get into later.

Lastly, we have a leopard print sweater by Burberry Prorsum. I love how this top is mixed with a bottom that is all business. The color choice is refreshing; it’s not the usual color combinations (aka colorways) which we see leopard prints in, and has been transformed into a tone that mixes perfectly with their collection.

What does vintage mean to you?

Reese

Reese Witherspoon got screwed with Kristen Dunst’s hand-me-down gown. We need to ask ourselves what makes something vintage? Is last season vintage? Or does something need to recede from fashion for 2o years to become honorably vintage?

The gown is from Chanel’s 2002 couture collection. According to Chanel’s publicist Gretchen Fenton, the gown actually isn’t considered vintage. Fenton said, the term vintage, long used to classify dresses from bygone eras, has become “very vague” and is a “new way” to define apparel not available in recent designer collections.

Golden Globe cuties…

Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley are my picks for the best dressed girls of the evening at the Golden Globes. Strapless was definitely the way to go. Natalie looks awesome in her vintage Chanel Haute Couture and her simple makeup/hair look was relieving compared to all the overdone ladies at the Globes. Keira also looked pretty good, the sutach embroidery on her Valentino gown actually looks stunning, but maybe I’m just saying that because Missoni has been making sutach look like the next big embellishment trend…

I loved it on Balenciaga’s runway and I love it on preggers Gwyneth Paltrow. I wonder if B will make me my maternity clothes…

Project Runway vs. Project Catwalk

Project Catwalk Styles

It was recently brought to my attention that there is a British knockoff of my beloved Project Runway, theirs goes by the fresh name of Project Catwalk. Just like our show, the UK version gives twelve talented and hungry fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to have their collection shown at London Fashion Week. The winner also gets a small pile of money and a mentorship with the Top Shop design team (which is way better than blah Banana Republic). Last year’s Project Runway winner, Jay, didn’t even accept the Banana Republic internship. (more…)

Prediction for the Golden Globes…

scarlett johanson prediction golden globes

The 2006 Golden Globes are coming up, and everyone is buzzing about who is going to wear what. I’ve complied this picture as my prediction for Scarlett’s attire for the occasion. Kaufman says of Johansson for People’s siteShe’s a red-carpet chameleon – that’s why she’s so much fun to watch,’. Scarlett will be attending the event as a best supporting actress nominee for Match Point. This risk-taker has worn Roland Mouret and Marchesa in the past, and apparently is open to experimentation. With that being said this Yohji Yamamoto dress should be her natural choice.

Britney:Worst Dressed

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

1.10 bad britney.jpgFashion guru Mr. Blackwell has deemed Ms. Spears the Worst Dressed Star of 2005. Although I can think of countless fashion accidents Ms. Brit has been involved in, the incident in the video store, the unfortunate thong, and so on. Her inclusion on the list doesn’t really seem fair because it’s not like she’s a star anymore, it’s as if Blackwell is picking on a frequently photographed civilian.

Mystery Woman…

fendi_buckle 1.4.jpgCan any of our readers identify what celebrity was performing New Year’s Night wearing this Fendi Belt? I have scoured the internet, turned to the Associated Press, harassed the boys from NPR, but apparently everyone was too drunk to know who was on the tube with such horrid style.
The anonymous performer was committing the following fashion offenses:

1) A beret

2) Bad Fendi belt-I don’t care what Karl says about Silvia; I’m just not seeing it.

3) Angled/Side Pony Tail

I look forward to solving this style mystery with your help!

resort complilation 1.31.jpg

It’s Resort time in the fashion world…it’s a season that is solely based on escapism and another reason for stores to make even more money after the holidays. Now that everyone has gained holiday pounds from guzzling gallons of alcohol be thankful that Balenciaga was so kind as to make these huge caftans. The B team planned perfectly for all the ladies who have some new dunk in the trunk to safely prance around the islands in full coverage.
