80’s dresses are showing up everywhere at the moment, I think this one from Topshop is the cutest version I’ve seen yet. I’m not totally sold on this as a trend, perhaps it’s a better trend for those who didn’t wear it the first time, but regardless the bust detailing is pretty fierce.

I’ve been noticing scribble and splatter prints all over the spring runways, including the Miss Sixty, Abaete, and Phi collections. I love how Phi interpreted the trend into their ombre cardigans, which were paired with amazingly androgynous suits. But since I tend to go the more casual route, I chose this super graphic version from Urban Outfitters.

Looping back to the furry vest debate, mck mentioned that the Sartorialist recently took an awesome picture of a girl in a furry vest at the Prada show, here it is!

Isabel Marant is my all time favorite designer. Every time I go to Paris, I schedule my first day around making a trip to her store. The above image is an Isabel Marant ad from a French magazine. The most common high-street trend I saw was the furry vest. It’s kind of a weird trapper-chic look. I’m not a fur person (I only wear it if it’s vintage), what do you think? Love it or Hate it?

Over the holiday weekend Leo and I have become obsessed with the AMC show, Mad Men. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while, and the costume design makes it doubly worth watching. The show is based on the men in the ad agency profession in the 60’s, and highlights the good and bad of that period in terms of workplace ethics, gender roles, and fashion.

After watching the show, I’ve been increasingly interested in all the slimmer retro shapes that keep popping up for fall. The dress shown on the left is by Generra, and the dress to the right is Robert Rodriguez.

Denim has been pretty calm for a bit now… Lately we’ve been battling with the idea of wide leg jeans (which no one ever wears on the street) and colored jeans (which seem like a good idea, until you get in the changing room)…but now we have a new debate on our hands. What is going on with acid-washed denim? I tried on a pair this weekend to see what the fuss was about. I hated to actually like them, but I did really like them. But in the end, I walked out of the shop empty handed (but only because they were too long, and they had pesky ankle zippers). So what do you think, love them or leave them?

I love Olly and Suzi’s new t-shirt collection for Topshop. In such a pro-green fashion moment, this collaboration is wonderful (and dare I say, grossly trendy). But regardless, I love Olly and Suzi’s drawing style as well as creative concept. The two met as art students and have spent their creative careers approaching wildlife in it’s natural habitat, and together working to ‘capture their prey on paper’. So maybe I’m a little late on this…but in my defense, they’ve always been around. I finally caved and bought a pair the other week at the shore, and I have to say they are the first pair of grown-up sunglasses I’ve ever owned (by grown up, I mean comfortable and functional). I always toyed around with vintage DVF’s only to suffer from looking way too much like Nicole Richie with the huge bug-eyed glasses. Oh well, now I just look like Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

Call me crazy, but all of a sudden I’m totally into woven shirts. I’ve always held a grudge against them…growing up I had to wear collared shirts to school every day as part of our dress code. Following that as I approached college, I rebelled and cut the necks off of all of my shirts. Then landing a job designing garments, I struggled through designing woven shirts, and worst of all trying to draw a collar accurately (very challenging, try it you’ll see). And after all that, I actually bought one the other day, and I can’t seem to take it off.

This weekend I was shocked to realize there was total headband hysteria in the accessories world. I can’t say that I really understand the above example. Every store I went into had these ill fitting lumpy headbands (I know they are supposed to emulate a head scarf without slipping in a Prada-esque way but I just think they look frumpy). This example is from Forever 21.

The second look that ever present was these head-wrap-meets elastic pieces. I think it just looks lazy, I don’t really understand what’s so hard about wrapping a scarf around ones head. This piece is from J.CREW.

And thirdly, I love this. I spotted Joy wearing one of these over the weekend, and it is super cute and looks great with dark hair. This one is from Urban Outfitters.

Lately everywhere I look there are mirror-y shoes. Here are some of my favorites from Sigerson Morrison (the top two) and the bottom by Nine West.

Everyone keeps talking about this whole ‘New Rave’ look, and it seems as though it’s actually catching on. The accessories on the right are a bit too wacky for me (the bag is Fendi and the shoe is Pierre Hardy), but the French Connection dress/tunic on the left is just about right for me. And be sure to check out their newly designed website (it used to be awful, but now it’s cute!).

So I’ve finally gotten around to looking at the international fall 07 fashion shows, and one look which keeps popping up (nearly as often as last seasons gold lame stockings) is cat-woman-esque outfits. The above looks are by Marni,Chloe, and my personal fave Daryl K.  You are probably not going to catch me sporting this look, but I do love how tough and edgy it feels.  Perhaps I’ll approach it more through black sheen-heavy accessories.

Apparently everyone is going nuts over plaid bunchy panties. The above choices are by Urban Outfitters, Steven Alan, and Aerie by American Eagle. In principle I love the way they look, the mixture of boy/girl style is great but the amount of gathering just isn’t for me. Would you wear them?
