Bling is Big in Paris Stores…

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

So after strolling into some of my favorite stores in Paris I started to see a unanimous direction for Spring handbags. As the Spring runways proved, bling hasn’t been this big in a long time. Normally I only like bling in small doses, but some of my favorite stores, mentioned below have managed to make me love it in large doses.

I do want to point out that I failed to see anyone on the streets actually sporting these bags on the street, as the Parisian ladies seem to be sticking to their red patent leather bags for now. But I think that once the weather changes I’m envisioning droves of fashionable women strolling around pairing these blingtastic bags with some sweet summer dresses.

The first of my affections was for Vanessa Bruno’s bling shopper-bags. It’s a bit hard to tell from the pic, but the handle is covered in sequins. I love that it’s such a simple shape, but totally fabulous. It reminds me a bit of some bags that were really popular that Old Navy brought to the masses a few summers ago, I’m totally kicking myself for not picking one up back then!

Here are two more Vanessa Bruno bags that I didn’t see in the stores, but I came accross them on her site and just had to put them up.

Next on the list are Zadig & Voltaire, who are known for their slinky luxury looks. I wasn’t super impressed by their normally cute slip-like dresses and ultra-light sweaters this time around, but these bags were really supple and gorgeous in person (I don’t think the pic really does them justice).

And lastly we have mama bling herself, Miu Miu.

Wide leg jeans…

lips wide leg jeans
The inevitable change from the skinny jeans we have all learned to wear was bound to happen. Every magazine I open and every shop I go to, I can’t help but see a gazillion wide leg jeans. Above are a pair by Lips jeans, a new up and coming denim line. With my small frame, I’m not sure I can pull of the wide legs, but I think they look great on long legged models.
What do you all think, will you wear them or stick to your favorite skinnies?

Proenza for Target…

proenza_schouler.jpg
Proenza,Proenza,Proenza everywhere I turn there is so much hype over this line for Target so I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon to deliver you some news about it.  If you can’t wait until it hits the target stores, head over to Opening Ceremony (35 Howard Street,at Broadway & Lafayette Streets in NY) between Febuary 2nd-5th to get some Proenza merch before it even hits the Target stores.  I’m not a hardcore Proenza fan, but I do feel that this Hawaiian thing is going to be huge for summer so, happy shopping!

Forever 21…forever

The other day I ventured out to the mall…yes I actually went into a mall (gasp!). The one and only reason was to go on a shopping mission to Forever 21. Above are two of my finds from the excursion. Shopping at Forever 21 is a little habit that I just can’t kick after getting hooked on the shop in midtown (NY). I used to be such an H&M sort of girl, but these days Forever 21 seems to fit my needs best. Their quick interpretations of Topshop and the catwalks have a higher-end sensiblitiy compared to H&M. My trick to pulling off the looks is to size up. I tend to be a small in most shops, but I opt for mediums and larges which helps the pieces look more designer-y. Which store do you all prefer, Forever 21 or H&M?

64th Annual Golden Globes…

Well, what kind of fashion blog would this be if I didn’t mention the Golden Globes. I’m not really a gown sort of girl, but here are some ladies that deserve an honorable mention. I always love Chloë Sevigny, in a vintage Yves Saint Laurent I think it’s great that she opted to wear a print. No matter how wacky her looks always are, she always looks contemporary and fun. The only thing I didn’t ‘get’ about the styling was the shoes, they were too chunky. I love Sienna Miller’s milk maid hair, but the Marchesa dress was a bit stuffy for her. And last but not least, Jennifer Garner, in Gucci looked nice and elegant. I love the simplicity of her dress and her casual and modern approach to hair and makeup.

Cute Camis…

I stopped into Urban Outfitters the other day, and fell in love with these two tops.  I had to even purchase two of the cami on the left! I absolutely adore the blue and black polka-dot cami shown on the right (it’s by Free People).  Blue and black are one of my all-time favorite color combos, I think it’s going to be next weeks purchase…

I’ve found love, in a jazz shoe…

Okay, so I finally found a jazz shoe I actually love. The other day I received an anonymous tip regarding these adorable shoes by B. The online store, bStore London, carries the brand Marrie which has some really similar cute styles. I love how delicate they are, and in red, so unexpected!

Trend or Not? Jazz shoes…

So, I have a burning question for you all. What do we think about these shoes?
I keep seeing them pop up in photoshoots and so many of the cutest girls in Williamsburg are sporting them, but why do I hate the ideas of these pseudo jazz shoes so much??? Is this trend only happening because Kirsten Dust was seen sporting a white pair? What do you think, is this good or bad fashion?

The Hungarian Blouse…

I’ve always been a fan of Hungarian inspired embroideries. Here are two options, to the left is Sheila Cook Textiles, and the right is a top designed by one of my favorite Free People ladies.

Shirt Shape: Artist Blouse

Monday, November 27th, 2006

I’m loving the ‘artist blouse’ shape that is happening on the runways. It’s such a natural transition from the knit tunic that has been happening for sooooo long. I can’t wait until this silhouette trickles down. The above looks are by Karen Walker, Gen Art, Nicole Miller, and Cacharel.

lizz’s 12 hour difference style report

hk_style.jpg

Hi Everyone, one of Seamster’s co-founders Lizz W has just returned from traveling overseas and has a great new trend report for all of us lovers of HK style.
The big news in Hong Kong and Shanghai isn’t really new news at all:

Everyone has been shanghai-ed by the bubble! Not just bubble skirts are skirting the streets but bubble pants, bubble tops, bubble shorts, bubble structured jackets (usually in big colorful tweeds), even bubble denim (which looks better than it sounds). The way to blend in with the cool kids (or at least the cute kids), is by wearing a large feminine (lace and smocking) or big basic top, layer with a large sweater or cropped bubble jacket or tight vest, not-so short-shorts, knee socks and little heels: this look was almost a uniform on the street.
Skulking about the cheap (and fabulous), and fabulous (but not cheap) stores of Hong Kong confirmed the above: bubblicious items and above the knee shorts, big tweeds, and nary a dress to be seen: unless in sweater knit.
Psychedelic floral prints and intense whimsical prints were in all the local stores: in the current big-sleeve dramatic shape or gathered baby doll dress. (Un?) Luckily for me, they were all made out of really atrocious light weight poly fleece, otherwise I would have bought several, possibly to wear at once.
Also, the only tasteful embellishment seen was rough, hand-done embroidery mixing heavy yarns with lurex, beads and sequins, usually in a nepali-esque inspired artwork.

Cold Weather Fashion Question: Tights with shorts?

11.3_shannoncutiepie.jpg

Here at Seamsters we often get questions from our readers. I recently got a question from one of our loyal readers, Thea which many readers may be asking themselves this time of year. She was wondering if tights with shorts were fashionable, because she was digging this look shown above. I have to say that normally I would be opposed, but for some reason my intuition says go for it! First off, anything is better than leggings. Secondly, the white tights shown above are soooo Marie Antoinette (which is a good thing, fashion-wise, that is). Just keep in mind, you’ve got to have great legs to pull of shorts, especially when paired with tights because it draws a lot of attention. So, if you look in the mirror and you think you look great go for it. If you look and the mirror and think you look chunky, chances are that you do in fact look chunky.

Shirt Alert: Tiny Collars

Tiny collars are showing themselves to be the new direction for woven tops. Here are some looks by Miu Miu and Jil Sanders.

Mirror Mirror…

I never thought I would be into this sort of thing, but I’m finding that there are a lot of uses of Indian-style mirror embellishments happening on the spring 07 runways. I love these examples by Matthew Williamson, Reem Acra, Brian Reyes.

Blue Print…

White has been the main color statement for spring, again…but I’m more interested in the primary approach to color that’s starting. I love the strong use of blue shown above. Oscar de la Renta’s (top left) floral print is one of my favorite prints of the season. No matter how blue is used, whether it’s Oscar’s primary blue, Tibi’s cobalt (middle right), or Tracy Reese’s turquoise (bottom right), I love blue in all of its printed forms. Other looks shown here are by Twinkle, Reem Acra, and Three as Four.
