While searching for the perfect summer dress, I stumbled upon these adorable nautical-inspired dresses from JCrew.  I love the way the large conversational prints are used in a new way to reinvent these classic summer dresses.  I especially love the anchor shirt dress!

Woven Shirts???

Call me crazy, but all of a sudden I’m totally into woven shirts. I’ve always held a grudge against them…growing up I had to wear collared shirts to school every day as part of our dress code. Following that as I approached college, I rebelled and cut the necks off of all of my shirts. Then landing a job designing garments, I struggled through designing woven shirts, and worst of all trying to draw a collar accurately (very challenging, try it you’ll see). And after all that, I actually bought one the other day, and I can’t seem to take it off.

Band of Outsiders…

These days I know way more about suits than I ever thought I would. With our wedding coming up, Leo and I have searched high and low for the perfect suit. Although we didn’t end up with a Band of Outsiders suit, I must say they do make the most amazing pieces. Their cuts are amazingly slim and they seem to be one of the only brands that cater to young stylish men. The other thing to love about them is their website, it’s a blog. And even more love-able is the fact that they are preparing to launch a women’s wear label, ‘Boy’ which will debut at Barney’s sometime real soon.

Peter Saville…

The other day when I was so taken with Kate Moss’s graphic identity, I had no idea who to thank for all it’s lovely-ness. Turns out British graphic designer Peter Saville in conjunction with Paul Barnes is responsible. You may have seen Peter’s work on album covers for bands such as Joy Division and New Order. Basically his stuff is amazingly rad, check out some more of his work here (Designed by Peter Saville) or here (co-author of Visionaire 36).

Kate Moss for Topshop

Everywhere I look it’s Kate mania. But I have to say I love the way Kate Moss’s collection for Topshop seems to look, although anything modeled by her or Irina looks good. I’ve yet to see any pieces in person, but I’m thinking about checking some of the pieces out at Barneys Co-Op (in 8 days they will have some of the pieces). And, the other notable thing is the graphic design on the Barneys site and the Topshop site (both look fabulous).

Headband Hysteria…

This weekend I was shocked to realize there was total headband hysteria in the accessories world. I can’t say that I really understand the above example. Every store I went into had these ill fitting lumpy headbands (I know they are supposed to emulate a head scarf without slipping in a Prada-esque way but I just think they look frumpy). This example is from Forever 21.

The second look that ever present was these head-wrap-meets elastic pieces. I think it just looks lazy, I don’t really understand what’s so hard about wrapping a scarf around ones head. This piece is from J.CREW.

And thirdly, I love this. I spotted Joy wearing one of these over the weekend, and it is super cute and looks great with dark hair. This one is from Urban Outfitters.

Spring ‘it’ bags…

I just got the Barneys spring bag catalog yesterday, and here are some of my favorites. Shown above is “Mariah” by Marc Jacobs, in the middle “Nightengale” by Givenchy and lastly (but not least-ly) is Marni’s “Balloon”.

Patent Leather…

Lately everywhere I look there are mirror-y shoes. Here are some of my favorites from Sigerson Morrison (the top two) and the bottom by Nine West.

Everyone in the Williamsburg area should be sure to check out Popomomo and Supayana’s trunk show at Sodafine.

In love…with Rebecca Taylor…

Today I noticed that Rebecca Taylor has updated their site with their Spring line. I’ve always been a huge (borderline obsessed) fan and I am totally in love with these two dresses. I especially love the stronger than usual print direction, very Marimekko feeling.

Colorblocked…new rave takes charge

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Everyone keeps talking about this whole ‘New Rave’ look, and it seems as though it’s actually catching on. The accessories on the right are a bit too wacky for me (the bag is Fendi and the shoe is Pierre Hardy), but the French Connection dress/tunic on the left is just about right for me. And be sure to check out their newly designed website (it used to be awful, but now it’s cute!).

Cute finds, at yes…the mall

Normally I am no prep, but this weekend at the mall (yes, at the mall) I came across a bunch of pieces I adore. The top on the left is from Banana Republic (they have great textured prints at the moment) and the hoodie on the right is from Gap Body. I’m always on the hunt for an interesting hoodie, and this certainly fits the bill.

Sophia Kokosalaki…

I know this dress has been around for a while, but when I got the Barneys catalog in the mail the other day, this dress felt new and wonderful all over again. The proportions of this dress are just so pretty…

Urban…batik love

I just got the Urban Outfitters catalog today and I love this dress. I’m always a fan of yellow, and this bold and beautiful dress couldn’t be any more perfect for summer vacations. On another batik-y note, I also ordered these awesome pillows to toughen up my floral couch, it’s much better now!

Mociun…

This weekend I dropped into Vagabond (one of my favorite boutiques in Philly) and I finally got to see this Mociun dress in person. I love how feed-sack inspired it is, and the large scale blackbird print is gorgeous.
