Project Runway Streetstyle: Alison Kelly

I spotted ex-project runway cutie Alison Kelly hanging out around Williamsburg over the weekend. I’ve been giggling that on every show she has worn some variation of her crochet top (she wears it in white, black and every variation imaginable). Guess what she was wearing when I saw her on the street? Nothing less than one of her many crochet tops! Shown above is another take on her crochet top, courtesy of Alison’s myspace page.

Project Runway dropping the ball

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

I wanted to write up a review of last week’s PR for our readers, but then I found this review and thought that once something is done well there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. All I waned to add was that how did this hoochied out crap not get Angela kicked off (below left)?

This is not to mention that she made it very clear in the last episode that she just wants to mooch off other peoples’ ideas whenever possible. Poor taste and no style. And as much as Katherine’s dress was simple, at least it wasn’t hideous, and after all she made a functional hoodie for her dog.I hope the judges start to get it right soon.

Project Runway…the blue sheet incident

7.23_project_runway.jpg
Okay, normally I stay away from posting pictures of myself on the blog. Today I have made an exception due to my need to report face-to-face, concerning the monstrosity I was accosted by while strolling along 34th street. What did I find in the Macy’s window, but a big blue sheet! My own outfit is more innovative than that crap. Did the project runway judges forget that the first project was supposed to be innovative? Keith Michael took one of the most cliched sillhouettes of all time (every fashion design student thinks they are the first to create a halter dress) and he had the nerve to make it out of FABRIC! This is looking like it is going to be one harshly reviewed Project Runway season, and also what is going on with the Project Runway website? I would definitely say ‘Auf wiedersehen’ to their web designer.

Heavy satin isn’t cool.

chloe runway santino runway

Update: Can you tell which dress belongs to which designer? Case in point.
I don’t really want to get into it too much, and I never really thought that I would say this, but I really feel that Santinogot shafted last night. As much as I didn’t like his personality and as much as he deserved to get kicked off during the “Design for a Designer show”, he had the best collection out of the three finalists on the Runway. Chloe, who’s definitely a doll, isn’t cut out to be world-renown because she designs too conservativly and has a hard time thinking outside the box. Her collection was too simple and as Heidi put it surprisingly well, “too matchy-matchy”, I think her choice of fabric was very weak as well. Daniel’s performance was mediocre, and I think that he was a bit overconfident in his abilities. True, Santino did tone it down a bit from his “Phoenix rising out of the Ice” days, but it was a well rounded collection with a few good pieces, and on the whole much stronger than the other two.

Don’t get me wrong, Chloe is a hard worker and deserves the money just as much, if not more than the other two. However, she didn’t have the strongest collection, although the babydoll dress that her and Diana designed is actually quite nice, and that should be the basis of the decision. Anyhow, here is the link to her store, hopefully she will be able to capitalize on her 15 minutes and make it last her a long long time.

Also, check out Santino’s Blog, he’s certainly going to try and make the most out of his publicity.

Here is Daniel’s site , nothing here yet but maybe soon.

Last, the runner up to the finale, Janx.

PS If any of you designers are reading this, STOP MAKING FLASH INTROS TO YOUR WEBSITE!

PPS Amy, is still adjusting to Williamsburg and will probably be back at this next week.

Kara Janx Runway Fall 2006 Ready to WearKara Janx Runway Fall 2006 Ready to Wear

About a week and a half ago when Kara Janx was booted off of the show I was definitely upset, not so much that she was kicked off but that Santino the dufus got to stay on. The fact of the matter is that he’s not that talented, yeah he like to throw trim on everything and goes overboard, but he’s not likeable nor is he a nice person, on any level. He has very little respect for others to boot. Before this turns into a rant I’d like to return the focus to Kara. Despite the fact that for the majority of the show I didn’t really like most of the outfits she designed she did manage to come up with a few inspired pieces including outfit for Santino. Regardless, she was the designer to show at Fashion Week but will not be shown during last episode of Project Runway since she has been eliminated. From what I’ve heard and the few things I’ve seen her collection was definitely a strong one and perhaps better than the rest. I guess it’s easier to take risks when you have nothing to lose. There’s an informative interview with her at Andy’s Blog (a producer for Bravo). Below are some of the looks from her show, I really like the hats!

Old News… $1700?

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

As some of you know the Project Runway people sell by auction the actual designs from the show. The website has a breakdown of the garment per episode and how much they each sold for. So, do you all remember watching the “All dolled up” episode of Project Runway when they created the outfits for barbie dolls? This one on the above left was Nick’s and it sold for $1700! OMG! It’s kind of cute, in the LA sort I guess, but is it worth the price?

The one that shocked me most was Santino’s gaudy-ass lingerie piece, which looks more like someone puked up a bunch of trim on a bra and panties set. Do you see that the cups look like horizontal vagina’s? And this POS went for $275! I guess if you’re really obsessed with reality TV you can justify it but, I think it was a waste of money.

Project Runway Door Mat

Andrae is finally gone!!! Ever since his obscene crying episode, I’ve wanted him off the catwalk. His little dress was sooooo sad. I see what he was going for with the little Chanel-like shift dress. However, his dress looked stuffy shared a striking resemblance to a doormat. I’m glad to see that my faves Chloe and Nick aka Chicklet are still in.

Project Catwalk Week 2 Review

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

As many of you know the second episode of Project Catwalk aired about a week and a half ago on Skyone. It took quite a while for it to show up on the torrent sites but it finally appeared earlier this week.

FrostFrench Project Catwalk Week 2

This episode the designers were given a lesson in fashion by the Sadie Frost and Jemima French of the FrostFrench designer duo. Sadie and Jemima wasted no time getting into the thick of it with the contestants challenging them to describe themselves in a ‘word’. Everyone was able to respond pretty quickly except for Zoe who decided to have some sort of fit about being put on the spot, a sure foreshadowing of troubles to come.

Project Runway vs. Project Catwalk

Project Catwalk Styles

It was recently brought to my attention that there is a British knockoff of my beloved Project Runway, theirs goes by the fresh name of Project Catwalk. Just like our show, the UK version gives twelve talented and hungry fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to have their collection shown at London Fashion Week. The winner also gets a small pile of money and a mentorship with the Top Shop design team (which is way better than blah Banana Republic). Last year’s Project Runway winner, Jay, didn’t even accept the Banana Republic internship. (more…)

Project Runway:Muscle Man!

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

1.10 zulema sucks .jpgI’m not even going to get into Marla and Dirty Diana, let’s just try to forget…Let’s turn our focus to Kara and Zulema who were a true atrocity in both their behavior and in their end product. I’m not sure what the difficulty was with the navy charmeuse, for a base fabric anything would have better than that large circle print. Z has a serious attitude problem which is going to be her demise later in the show. The silhouette of their 2nd attempt conveyed some of Kara’s youthful style, sort of an H+M sort of look. But let’s not forget the muscle man jacket, what is this Dog Bounty Hunter? As for their window display, the concept was too literal, and the NY cutout idea was childish and poorly executed.
