Nooo! I was truly convinced that this trend was dead for good, but for the past year now, the super-high stacked platform has begun to resurface. Here are two of the latest platform designs from Yves Saint Laurent and Allesandro Dell’Aqua. I think these brick heels should remain as seventies relics, never to be taken out of their museum glass cases. What do you guys think?

I’m not sure why being on a TV show gives license for runway disasters like this. This is a bomb of bad taste…yuck.

Our dear reader Beebers pointed out the other day the presence of rose-like fabric poofs on the Spring 07 runways. It’s a huge trend. I’m not on board with it, but the over abundance of it is a definite message for embellishment. I just can’t get past the fact that it’s so Angela of Project Runway. I’m starting to think that all the RTW designers have been tuning in too much.

I think the Marc Jacobs team has been watching too much Project Runway…

Here is another weird image/project idea from Free-Form Bargello.

I love the interior cover of
Free-Form Bargello. This book is full of extremely weird and badly formed drawings, all of which I love. Check out the below images of free-form approaches to Bargello embroidery.

I wanted to write up a review of last week’s PR for our readers, but then I found this review and thought that once something is done well there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. All I waned to add was that how did this hoochied out crap not get Angela kicked off (below left)?
This is not to mention that she made it very clear in the last episode that she just wants to mooch off other peoples’ ideas whenever possible. Poor taste and no style. And as much as Katherine’s dress was simple, at least it wasn’t hideous, and after all she made a functional hoodie for her dog.I hope the judges start to get it right soon.

Okay, normally I stay away from posting pictures of myself on the blog. Today I have made an exception due to my need to report face-to-face, concerning the monstrosity I was accosted by while strolling along 34th street. What did I find in the Macy’s window, but a big blue sheet! My own outfit is more innovative than that crap. Did the project runway judges forget that the first project was supposed to be innovative? Keith Michael took one of the most cliched sillhouettes of all time (every fashion design student thinks they are the first to create a halter dress) and he had the nerve to make it out of FABRIC! This is looking like it is going to be one harshly reviewed Project Runway season, and also what is going on with the Project Runway
website? I would definitely say ‘Auf wiedersehen’ to their web designer.

I recently got back from a short trip to Beijing and Shanghai. Street style in China is definitely much more restricted than it is in Japan, but some are trying to take it to the next level, one way or another. As we all have heard ad nauseum China is the next big thing, after being there I tend to agree. However, as seen in the image above, this couple from Shanghai is trying a bit too hard. Notice the expression of disbelief on the face of the umbrella vendor.

It’s over…
****update***Sorry Ladies. Flats never look good no matter how good your legs are. Now that it’s warm, the leggings have no reason for being. Rather than flats, I recommend a nice sexy pair of towering pumps. I’m salivating over a very sexy pair at (gasp!), Steve Madden. I’m developing a love for grey suede pumps. A Dries Van Noten pair from a few seasons ago got me interested.
If you follow the advice concerning the flats, then why would you want to cover your legs with dodgy leggings? Everyone in New York is wearing them, the cute and uncute all have them on. Be fashion forward and try something new!
Please note that although the model shown on the right is wearing Converse shoes, no harm is meant to Converse. I support both their low and high tops (especially their shimmery ones available at Barney’s).

As some of you know the Project Runway people sell by auction the actual designs from the show. The website has a breakdown of the garment per episode and how much they each sold for. So, do you all remember watching the “All dolled up” episode of Project Runway when they created the outfits for barbie dolls? This one on the above left was Nick’s and it sold for $1700! OMG! It’s kind of cute, in the LA sort I guess, but is it worth the price?
The one that shocked me most was Santino’s gaudy-ass lingerie piece, which looks more like someone puked up a bunch of trim on a bra and panties set. Do you see that the cups look like horizontal vagina’s? And this POS went for $275! I guess if you’re really obsessed with reality TV you can justify it but, I think it was a waste of money.

Andrae is finally gone!!! Ever since his obscene crying episode, I’ve wanted him off the catwalk. His little dress was sooooo sad. I see what he was going for with the little Chanel-like shift dress. However, his dress looked stuffy shared a striking resemblance to a doormat. I’m glad to see that my faves Chloe and Nick aka Chicklet are still in.

Before stepping out last evening I took some time to indulge in E!’s special on the Sex and the City’s style. Although the ladies from SITC are typically well dressed, Sarah Jessica Parker did make a bad fashion decision back at the 58th Golden Globes. It’s not that Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress was awful, it just wasn’t good. And then, as I was paging through the paper this morning it all came together…
Elie Saab (dress shown on right) should have learned from SJP’s mistake, but instead he followed in Oscar de la Renta’s footsteps of shame. Elie Saab’s spring 2006 couture collection was a disaster of bugle beads and flower clumps shoved around the bust area. I’m not sure what his in is with the rest of the couture moguls, but it seems as though he needs to re-evaluate his participation in couture collections until he learns the skill of paring down to the essentials.

John Galliano has presented an alarmingly sadistic collection for his spring couture line for Dior. His work is a response to the rioting and general unrest in Paris during the summer. He also resorts to digging back into Paris’s history, looking as far as the French Revolution. This violent edge to his collection comes as no surprise as the men’s shows in Millan have also carried this aggressive look. Galliano’s collection is trend right in the attitude of his collection, but his execution of the collection appears stale… (more…)
