More Wedding Present Ideas…for the chef

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Over the weekend lots of people were asking me what to give as a wedding present….a belated wedding present.  So, since some time has passed for this gift, cash in my mind would be tasteless…so it’s going to take a more sentimental or thoughtful gift.  My immediate reaction was, do something to allow the couple to go on a date.  If they have kids, volunteer to babysit and get them a gift certificate to a cute local restaurant.  If budget is an issue, splurge on fun food prep items in a theme of a certain type of cooking you know the couple enjoys.

While making dinner tonight, I was thinking about how much I love my antique juicer and my fancy zester (from Williams-Sonoma).  A cute antique juicer is easy to find on ebay or at almost any antique mall.  I personally love the jadite style or, like mine a depression era green glass style.

Grilling is always a great theme.  I’ve been lusting after this burger press for a while. These cute seasonings and a electronic meat thermometer can make excellent add-ons.  I also recently purchased a spatula from this set at Williams-Sonoma which I love, as well as this amazing Grill Wizard from Amazon.

Wedding Season…what to give? part 1

Here’s an idea if the couple loves to cook.  These grilling pans are beautiful objects and look like so much fun.  I’ve never seen anything like them before, but apparently they are inspired by the chefs of Spain’s Basque country and are made for cooking shrimp, sliced veggies, and all those other things that always fall through the grill rack.

Finally found a dress…

trina_turk_dress copy.jpg
After looking over the Nordstrom dress selection for a good couple hours, I finally made a decision on what to wear to Leo’s brother’s wedding. I decided on this Trina Turk dress. I love the silk jersey fabric (should be great for dancing!) and the back of the dress has a really nice metal ring detail. My other choice was the below Theory dress, I love the print, but it didn’t feel dressy enough for the occasion.

I also helped my mom find a great crochet dress at Lilly Pulitzer that she is going to look fabulous in.

Philip Crangi…at Erie Basin

The other day Joy posted about, Erie BASIN a cute online shop (with a physical shop in Red Hook, NY).  Philip Crangi’s rings are my personal favorites. I love the simplicity of these rings, plus they would make really cute wedding or engagement rings! The pricing is also very accessible, ranging from $160-$385.

Back from a lovely vacation…

Leo and I are finally back to our normal routine here in the states. We had an amazing time traveling around Sardinia and Puglia. Above is one of my most favorite places that we stayed at, called the Truli Country House. Truli’s are ancient mud round structures with brick-like pointed tops (as in the top picture).

Bon Voyage!

So Leo and I just got married, and we are off to Italy for our honeymoon! So I won’t be posting over the next 2 weeks, please check back upon our return. Shown above are the cake toppers we used. They are custom made by Ann Wood. I love the way she patchworked the bodies with our own printed fabrics.

Love in a bag…

Love in a bag. Recently while Leo and I have been planning our honeymoon to Italy, we realized we needed some ‘grown-up’ luggage. I came across this amazing Diane Von Furstenberg suitcase the other day, and just fell in love. It would be so easy to find it twirling around the luggage carousel! Oh well, enough dreaming. We ended up getting a very sensible set of swissgear cases, which are good in their own right.

Countdown…

Hi everyone, I’ll be sporadically posting over the next couple weeks, as I’m in wedding countdown mode.

Shiny shoes…

black_shoes.jpg
I have a new obsession…shiny shoes. It all started with this pair. Leo and I argued about the impracticality for me to wear these at work (amongst the screen printing and general mess, probably not the best choice). But I’ve got to say that I totally adore the fact that they stay pretty and shiny no matter what my environment happens to be. I like them so much that yesterday I picked up the heeled version to go with my 2nd wedding dress (it has red embroidered flowers on it so it’s the perfect opportunity to wear red shoes!

Band of Outsiders…

5.8_band_of_outsiders.jpg
These days I know way more about suits than I ever thought I would. With our wedding coming up, Leo and I have searched high and low for the perfect suit. Although we didn’t end up with a Band of Outsiders suit, I must say they do make the most amazing pieces. Their cuts are amazingly slim and they seem to be one of the only brands that cater to young stylish men. The other thing to love about them is their website, it’s a blog. And even more love-able is the fact that they are preparing to launch a women’s wear label, ‘Boy’ which will debut at Barney’s sometime real soon.
